NEWS

With over 200 young musicians now registered the NAFCo2012 Youth Fiddle Camp is fully booked and we can no longer accept any more applications. There are student groups coming from Canada, Shetland, Sweden, Scotland and from all arts and parts of Ireland.

INFORMATION

As part of the North Atlantic Fiddle Convention being held, for the first time ever, on the island of Ireland an International Youth Fiddle Camp will be held at the University of Ulster, Magee Campus, City of Derry from June 27th– 30th 2012.  Activities during the Youth Fiddle Camp will include workshops with leading international fiddle players, attendance at key NAFCo events, participation in the performance of a newly commissioned fiddle piece by a noted traditional composer and performance opportunities at various NAFCo events including the Youth Day on June 30th.

NAFCo is an international fiddle and dance festival and convention which attracts musicians and dancers from around the North Atlantic such as Ireland, the UK, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, the USA and Canada. The festival is held every two years and was last held in Aberdeen, Scotland in 2010. While there has always been a strong youth presence at NAFCo, the 2012 International Youth Fiddle Camp is the first NAFCo dedicated youth camp programme.

In addition to the Youth Fiddle Camp there will be a Family Day with performance and participatory events for young and old.
